Frequently
Asked Questions
Why should I
enroll in Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga Yoga?
Our Kundalini Yoga teacher training program has been recognized for
almost a decade for its quality of instruction and graduates. Its team
of teacher trainers received the Award for Kundalini Yoga Community
Development in 2002 from the International Association of Kundalini
Yoga Teachers. You will have an opportunity to practice Kundalini Yoga
in one of the most active Kundalini Yoga communities in the country.
What sort of
recognition will I received upon completing the program?
When you complete your Kundalini Yoga teacher training with us, you
will be eligible to become a National Registered Yoga Teacher as well
as receive certification as a Kundalini Yoga Teacher through KRI (Kundalini
Research Institute). Yoga Yoga Teacher Training is a registered school
with the Yoga Alliance at the highest level. Our teacher training program
meets or exceeds Yoga Alliance’s national standards for yoga teacher
education.
When is the training
program offered and how long will it take to complete?
The Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training Program begins every September and
runs through the May. Over the 9 months you will usually meet for classes
twice a month on the weekends with an average time commitment of about
24 hours a month.
What can I do
in the meantime before the program starts?
As soon as you register for the program, you will receive a list of
suggested books as well as guidance in taking classes and workshops.
You will also be eligible to receive a discount on our unlimited monthly
yoga pass at Yoga Yoga (see discounts).
The directors of the Kundalini Yoga program will be happy to meet with
you to help you evaluate what you can do to become a better prepared
student. With your reading and your guided practice in class and at
home, you can begin your learning process as soon as you register!
How do I know
if I am ready to start?
The teacher training course starts with all the basics you need to know
as both a student and a teacher. We have had beginning students start
with only a limited amount of experience who have done extraordinarily
well and are now teachers themselves. The only requirement is the ability
to commit to yourself and a practice.
I noticed there
are two weekend retreats. How do those work?
Near the beginning and at the end of the teacher training programs,
we have a Friday evening through Sunday afternoon retreat in the country.
The weekend retreats give you a chance to fully experience a yogic lifestyle.
On retreat, you will enjoy meals prepared to yogic guidelines, spend
time with fellow students and teachers in a fun and relaxing environment,
and work deeply in a setting where your yoga studies are your only focus.
The weekend retreats are a great way to have an in-depth yoga experience,
be with your classmates and teachers, and complete your coursework efficiently.
Many students say that the retreats are their favorite part of the program!
I’m not sure
if I want to be a teacher. What are the benefits for someone who just
wants to learn more about Kundalini Yoga?
Many students pursue teacher training because they love Kundalini yoga
and want to learn more. Teacher Training is a wonderful way to deepen
your practice of Kundalini Yoga and take it to a new level. The first
step in this process is having a regular practice. You will learn to
develop a strong practice as well as immersing yourself in a structured
learning experience that will serve you well whether if you choose to
teach or not.
What if I have
to miss a class or cannot take all the classes?
Nearly everyone misses a class at some time. If you cannot attend a
class, you will be allowed to make up a missed class with other assignments
and training that is part of the teacher training program. We do have
guidelines for how many classes you can miss and there are a few classes
where you may have to wait and repeat them in order to complete your
training, so please ask us if you have any concerns before registering.
Are there other
benefits to being in the teacher training programs?
In addition to participating in a community of dedicated yoga students
and teachers with the support of a full-time training staff, you receive
discounts on class passes, books, CDs, and clothes sold at all three
Yoga Yoga locations. Please check out our Student Page for current information
on discounts.
