YOGA DAY USA PROMOTES YOGA NATIONWIDE
Yoga Yoga in Austin, TX, joins teachers and studios in eight surrounding communities
to participate in Yoga Day USA.
Austin, Texas - (January 15, 2005) Challenging adults and children to embark
on a healthy new lifestyle in 2005, Yoga Alliance is partnering with teachers,
studios and schools across the United States to offer free or donation-only
yoga classes on Yoga Day USA, which is Saturday, Jan. 29.
Yoga Yoga in Austin, TX, along with teachers and studios in eight surrounding
communities, are offering free and donation-only classes for beginners and experienced
students on Yoga Day USA. Participants include Heart and Soul Yoga studio
in New Braunfels, TX; Heart of Yoga studio in Wimberly, TX;
Main Street Yoga studio in Georgetown, TX; San Antonio Yoga
studio in Helotes, TX; Yoga for Life studio in Round Rock,
TX; The Yoga Space studio in Kerrville, TX; Yoga Yoga
centers in Austin, TX; registered yoga teacher Sapphire Bell in
Elgin, TX; and registered yoga teacher Patty Williamson in Fredericksburg,
TX.
Yoga Yoga is offering three, free community outreach classes in conjunction
with Yoga Day USA: Kundalini Yoga for Beginners for clients of the Healthy
Tots Project, 10 a.m. at the Lyons Garden Senior Community Housing Center, 2720
Lyons Road; Kids Yoga for Girl Scout troop #1649 at Yoga Yoga Westgate,
4477 South Lamar, 1-2 p.m.; and Hatha Yoga for Beginners for a mommy's
group at Yoga Yoga North, 2167 Anderson Lane, noon-1 p.m.
"We asked our students if they knew of community groups that would like
to try yoga on Yoga Day USA, and then we arranged free classes in response to
their requests." explained Jamie Hodge, outreach coordinator at Yoga Yoga.
"The exciting aspect of this approach is that we are reaching people who
otherwise might not have the opportunity to try yoga."
In addition to Yoga Alliance, Yoga Day USA is being sponsored by Yoga Journal,
LA Yoga Magazine and Yoga International, Wellworks Business Systems
and the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness. Event locations for all Yoga
Day USA classes are listed on the Yoga Alliance web site at www.yogadayusa.org.
The Yoga Alliance is a non-profit, national organization founded to set standards
for yoga teachers and yoga teacher training schools.
Nearly 15 million Americans have practiced yoga, according to a recent Yoga
Journal Harris Poll, with an additional 35 million people interested in trying
yoga in the next 12 months. According to a recent Harvard Medical School survey,
90% of Americans who have practiced yoga have found it helpful for a number
of health conditions, including back or neck pain, anxiety, arthritis, depression
and fatigue.
