Hodge ---------------------- PRENATAL YOGA NURTURES THE HEALTH OF EXPECTANT MOTHERS Austin, Texas - (January 3, 2005) Moderate exercise for 30 minutes or more a day on most, if not all, days of the week is recommended for expectant mothers by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. For a growing number of mothers-to-be, practicing prenatal yoga, which increases strength and flexibility while stabilizing the emotions, is the exercise of choice. By expanding its prenatal yoga program, Yoga Yoga is trying to meet the varying needs of expectant mothers who would like to practice prenatal yoga. In addition to the eight ongoing prenatal yoga classes offered at Yoga Yoga, three special series for new and continuing students have been added: Prenatal Yoga for Beginners, Prenatal Yoga for Partners, and Prenatal Yoga for Advanced Students. The fee for each of these four-class series is $60. Pre-registration is suggested. For class times and locations, visit www.yogayoga.com/prenatal. What is Prenatal Yoga? Prenatal yoga uses physical exercises, breathing techniques, and meditation to help ease pregnancy, delivery, and the after effects of birth. Traditional postures are modified to accommodate physical changes as pregnancy progresses. Classes are taught by registered yoga teachers who have specific training in prenatal yoga. Why Prenatal Yoga? The classes create flexibility, strength, and awareness through a gentle practice that is designed especially for the pregnant woman's needs. Prenatal yoga classes provide a safe and supportive environment for expectant mothers to connect with other mothers-to-be, as well as, time for bonding with their unborn babies Quote from Prenatal Yoga Student, Suzy "I took pre-natal yoga from week 15 through week 41 of my pregnancy. It was so relaxing I would be near sleep at the end of practice, pretty impressive for a hugely pregnant woman lying on a hardwood floor. My doctor was amazed at how calm I was throughout my pregnancy, even when I went past my due date. When I explained about the yoga, she exclaimed she was going to recommend it to all her patients. I even did mantras from class as I underwent my unplanned c-section. It was just an incredible experience, learning from my yoga teacher and sharing my pregnancy with other pregnant women--and now we see each other regularly for playgroups! Prenatal yoga was a major reason my pregnancy and birthing were peaceful and joyous experiences, and now my motherhood is, too."
