 Leslie B
A dear friend took Leslie to her first yoga class in San Antonio in the mid-1970s. She was struck by how well the instructor could read the students’ bodies when they entered the room and during the practice. “This intrigued me, plus the poses were so calming...I knew I had to go back,” she says. Her very first instructor, a disciple of Swami Satchidananda, instilled in Leslie a love of yoga and in the decades since yoga has never failed her.
In August, 2006, Leslie completed Yoga Yoga's 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training program. She has continued her yogic education with a variety of workshops on various styles and traditions of yoga. She teaches at several studios around Austin. Yoga Yoga students will find Leslie teaching Restorative Yoga, her greatest love.
Her Restorative classes begin by taking time to bring the focus to the breath, and set an intention. Then, joint freeing movements prepare the body to be more receptive to the restorative process. During the class, three to five restorative poses are practiced, each one lasting 5-15 minutes.
When asked what it is she loves about yoga, Leslie says, “It keeps me from feeling my age! Seriously though, it really awakens my body in the morning and allows me to feel centered and ready for the day.” A regular personal practice, including lots of public classes of different traditions and teachers, keeps Leslie learning. She is always seeking more information and education, and folding her lessons into her teaching.
A native of Virginia, Leslie has a BS and a Master's of Education in special education. In 2007 she retired from thirty years of teaching special education, and spent a year teaching yoga in the Virgin Islands. Leslie is a year-round Deep Eddy swimmer, a watercolorist, and yoga teacher. She also studies Spanish and practices Qigong.
